Desiring God

There is a balance to be learned in enjoying the things we’ve been given to enjoy – but, not exalting them to a higher place than our ultimate joy. It’s a struggle of mine. It’s not intentional, but it comes way too easily for me. There are way too many things piled on my front seat that shouldn’t be there; too many other things that I’ve promoted to my first priority. I’m convicted and challenged by this.

I picked up Desiring God, by John Piper recently, because its title sums up what I’m looking for – what I’m missing. But, I’ve put it down. It’s too easy to grab a book over the Bible. It’s too easy to grab a book on prayer rather than spending time in prayer. It’s too easy …

The Lord wants to give us the desires of our heart. I’ve complained about my lack of real desire for Him. But, I’m not sure I’ve asked. Desiring Him absolutely aligns with His will – I’m asking, so I’m sure I’ll be receiving. Ask, Seek, Knock. (Matt. 7:7; Jer. 29:13)
